It’s That Time Again!

The upfronts are here! The upfronts are here!

One of our favorite times of the year in media. We get special access to the television upfronts for all the new shows scheduled for the upcoming season.

Watch for our recaps, some video of our “watch party” and our predictions of which network will come out on top for the new season.

We have a lot of fun with this. Our commentary is either spot on or wackily way off base. Check back to see if you agree our “professional” opinions.

True Media Home Office in America’s Hardest Working Town

The city that is home to our corporate office gets lots of praise from various lists about cities in the US, from the fastest growing to the best of College Town, USA.

The latest “best of” list that our awesome little town found its way onto is Parade Magazine’s list of America’s Hardest Working Towns.

Low unemployment and thriving education and healthcare industries keep our town and our people prospering. That good ‘ole Midwestern work ethic probably doesn’t hurt either.

SXSW Recap Part 2

Conduit Lounge

I can’t believe a week ago today I was wrapping up my first trip to SXSW Interactive Conference. Here’s some more recap from my trip.

My second day at SXSW it only rained on me in the afternoon, and if you know anything about this interactive festival then you know it requires a lot of walking the streets of downtown Austin and trying to catch shuttles to get to your next session. Sometimes the really good ones are full when you get there, and you’re lucky if they’ll let you in to sit on the floor. Some where lined up outside waiting for one person to leave so another could go in.

SXSW Recap

I recently returned from Austin, TX where I was fortunate enough to attend the SXSW Interactive conference to learn about new social trends and listen to some great panel speakers on social parties to attend put on by various up and comers and leaders in the tech and interactive industries that I couldn’t keep up even if I had been cloned. And I could have tried, because I’m pretty sure I saw that company with a booth in the trade show exhibit hall.

Here’s my top takeaways from the sessions I attended on day 1. You can follow the conversations from the sessions with the hashtags listed by each.

Planning Facebook Campaigns

As a social media manager I have planned more than my fair share of Facebook ad campaigns for my clients. When I first began doing this almost 2 years ago, the landscape was uncertain at best, especially for our clients that wanted to run small local campaigns to take advantage of the cost effectiveness of the ad platform. At that time, their ads were sometimes layered in with spammy “acai berry diet” ads claiming to have been endorsed by Dr. Oz (they weren’t).

Twitter’s New Redesign

Will Twitter’s new redesign, announced today, really streamline the “user experience” and help people discover more relevant conversations? Will Twitter ever catch up to the popularity of Facebook, or get to that coveted 1 billion users mark?

I find Twitter a little cumbersome from a personal user perspective. Taking off my social media manager’s hat, Twitter only fills one purpose for me, and that’s mostly an industry related one. I follow mostly social media and advertising on Twitter. I’m starting to branch out a little, but really, that’s what I have Facebook and Pinterest for.

QR Code Usage is Gaining Acceptance

Our Vice President of Client Services D.W. Cole on the Rise of the QR.

The United States now has about 82 million smartphone users, which is about 42% of the whole mobile market. Some 87% of smartphone owners access the internet or email on their handheld; including two-thirds (68%) who do so on a typical day. When asked what device they normally use to access the internet, 25% of smartphone owners say that they mostly go online using their phone, rather than with a computer. As smartphones are becoming more accessible to the general population, smartphones are a great way for advertisers to reach this new audience. Over the past few years, Quick Response codes (QR codes), are becoming a viable option for a message impact.

Fun Friday Blog: Revisiting the True TV Panel Picks

We’re now in the thick of the new TV season, so it’s time to see how we did with our picks from earlier this year, when we received the upfront previews from our TV partners.

Here’s some of the shows that we discussed, how we thought they’d do, and how they actually did. So far it seems like we were pretty much on target. Some of the pilots were not as good as we’d hoped but we have faith that they’ll work out the kinks.

Facebook Changes Again…Get Used to It.

My humble opinion on all this craziness surrounding the Facebook changes announced this week.

This week Facebook changed…again. And the whole world ranted about how they hated it. From the Washington Post, CNN and even ABC’s Robin Roberts in her most somber talking about how awful it is that Facebook is forever innovating, everyone is jumping on the Facebook bashing bandwagon.
